HARRIS STOWE STUDENT RECEIVES NATIONAL NEA STUDENT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Harris-Stowe State University student, April Thomas, from the College of Education has been selected to attend this year's National Education Association Student Leadership Conference. The conference will be held June 28-30, 2013 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

April will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of professional teaching and learning seminars.  She will also attend workshops designed to help conference attendees build student NEA chapters on their campuses.  Moreover, April will have the chance to network with education majors from across the country.

In addition to the conference proceedings, April will take part in Outreach To Teach, a unique service opportunity, where 300 other students, community leaders, teachers and retired educators will conduct an extreme makeover of a needy school in the Atlanta metro area.

The scholarship is sponsored by the Missouri National Education Association based on a recommendation from the Harris-Stowe State University-NEA leadership team. The scholarship will cover her registration, flight, meals and  materials.

April is excited about the opportunity and looks forward to coming back to Harris Stowe to build a vibrant student chapter for the 2013-2014 school year.
